SAAFP's Main Group (Western Cape)
The current main group of the Academy is an amalgamation of the former Athlone subgroup that was started in the early 1980’s at Gatesville by Dr A.W. Barday and Dr A. Ahmed and the former UCT group started by Dr Guy Parr at the UCT medical school.
On the first Tuesday of each month at 20:00pm we present an interactive CPD session at the Learning Centre of the UCT medical school. Our sessions are usually presented by specialists/family physicians from the private sector but on occasion we have colleagues from the surrounding academic centres of excellence (UCT, Groote Schuur Hospital, Tygerberg Hospital and Red Cross Hospital.) We usually present topics that are of interest to practicing family physicians.
Attendance is open to all colleagues. The meetings are well attended by practitioners from the Cape Flats area as well as a cross section of colleagues from the Southern suburb and City Bowl regions.
